Well, it's not exactly a hike, but I did spend 5 hours or so paddling to avoid fallen tree's in the river so the exercise was definitely there! Plus, it was a nature immersion, which was great! We (15 or so friends) went down the Mokelumne River yesterday. The weather was perfect for this short 4.3 mile stretch. All the usual animals were out and about, including trout, bass, cows, squirrels and a wide assortment of song birds. All-in-all it was a perfect trip and I came out without a sunburn!

Hiking at... the gym
I have unfortunately been off the trails for the last couple weekends. I didn't realize how much a mountain can take out of your body. I guess it's all that sweat equity I paid by climbing 7.2 miles in 2.5 hours with a 3300ft elevation change. The funniest part is that the hike UP the mountain isn't the hard part. It's turning around when you get to the top and hiking all those miles back downhill. It really shakes your joints apart!
Well anyway, I didn't give myself enough time to recover. I went straight back to the gym and kicked my own butt all week, and before I knew it I could barely walk.
In the midst of all that I was training on how to properly run. That alone takes it's own physical payment due to running incorrectly for 27 years. All my bones, muscles and tendon's have been in poor shape since then.
So hopefully next weekend I will be back at it in Rattlesnake country. I heard of a short hike with a cave full of water to explore at the end. That is enough to make me suck up whatever aches I have for the opportunity to go exploring something new. I'll make sure photos are posted ASAP!
